About Linton Park CC

Our story

Established in 1787 and at our present ground since 1861, Linton Park is one of Kent’s oldest village clubs — with a listed pavilion built by the Cornwallis family and, today, four Saturday XIs, two Sunday XIs, a 145-strong junior section and a fast-growing women & girls’ set-up across two grounds.

• 1646One of the earliest recorded cricket matches anywhere is played on nearby Coxheath Common on 29 May — Samuel Filmer & Thomas Harlackenden beating four men of Maidstone, the disputed wager preserved forever in the court records that followed.
• 1700sCoxheath Common goes on to stage major 18th-century matches — including Kent v Sussex fixtures — before its days as a cricket venue close in 1789.
• 1780sSir Horatio Mann of Linton Park (1744–1814) — one of the great patrons of Georgian cricket — stages big-money matches on his Kent estates.
• 1787Linton Park Cricket Club is founded — as the Coxheath Cricketing Society. One of its founders, Sir Horatio Mann of Linton Park, helps establish the MCC the same year.
• 1833The Gentlemen of the Coxheath club play Hadlow at the Star Inn, opposite Linton Park — the meeting still going, wickets pitched at ten o'clock and a 'good ordinary' to follow.
• 1861The club moves to its present ground at Linton Park, off Heath Road.
• 1880sThe Cornwallis family build the pavilion — today a listed building.
• 1887🎂 Centenary — the club marks 100 years since its founding in 1787.
• 1914Play stops for the Great War — the famous ground is put down to hay for food production.
• 1919Cricket returns: the first match back is on 31 May — Linton Park 63, Maidstone Church Institute 81 — after Bill Peach, George Fenner and groundsman Bill Farley reclaim the overgrown ground.
• 1937🎂 Sesquicentenary — 150 years of Linton Park cricket, marked by a 'local Derby' against Tovil CC.
• 1946The club re-forms after the Second World War, holding its first AGM since November 1938 and taking the then-controversial step of playing on Sundays. Tribute is paid to the four members who gave their lives.
• 1960🏆 David Clark Cup winners — the club's earliest silverware on the board.
• 1967Midweek cricket in the Maidstone & K.M. Evening Leagues.
• 1972🏅 The National Village Cup adventure begins — and a first Kent Area title, the first of fourteen.
• 1978🏆 National Village Cup winners at Lord's.
• 1980sSaturday league cricket in the Invicta League — the club's home for some three decades.
• 1980s🏆 David Clark Cup winners once more — 1980 and 1981, then again in 1989 & 1990.
• 1987🎂 Bicentenary — two hundred years of Linton Park Cricket Club.
• 1988🥇 A first Invicta League title — the 1st XI are crowned champions of the top flight.
• 1990s🥇 A golden decade in the Invicta League — Premier Division champions in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1995.
• 1999🏆 National Village Cup winners — a second Lord's triumph.
• 2004🥇 Invicta League champions once more; the Sunday sides join the Kent Village Cricket League.
• 2012🥇 The 1st XI reclaim the Invicta League title — the first of three in a row — with the 2nd XI champions too.
• 2013🥇 The 1st XI retain their Invicta League crown.
• 2014🥇 A third straight Invicta League title for the 1st XI, and the Sunday 1st XI win the Kent Village Cricket League.
• 2015Saturday cricket moves to the Kent County Village League.
• 2016🥇 Champions again — the 1st XI top the Kent County Village League.
• 2017🥇 County champions at Under-13 level, amid a golden decade for the junior section — 18 age-group league titles since 2010.
• 2020🥇 The 2nd XI are crowned Kent County Village League champions.
• 2023The club joins the Kent Cricket League, fielding four Saturday XIs — and the 1st XI earn promotion from Division 6 Hurricane, finishing runners-up.
• Sep 2023New practice nets are installed at Linton Park.
• 2024A second ground opens at Rumwood Cricket Ground, Otham.
• 2024🏏 The club establishes its Women's Softball team — first game played on 7 June 2024.
• 2024🥎 A dream debut season for the women: Kent Women's Softball Cricket League champions and Kent Women's Indoor Festival winners, plus runners-up in the Kent Women's Indoor League.
• 2025🥎 The women go again — retaining the Kent Women's Softball Cricket League, winning the Kent Women's Indoor League, and becoming the first-ever Kent Women's Softball Bash champions.
• 2037🎂 On the horizon — the club's 250th anniversary, a quarter-millennium of cricket at Linton (2026 marks 239 years since 1787).
