๐งข Friendly XIv LC Loose CC ยท HomeformโIt was a pleasure to welcome Loose CC to our ground on Tuesday last, the thirty-first of July, and having called correctly at the toss, I elected that we should take first innings โ the right course, I felt, upon a morning fair for batting.
Our knock did not proceed altogether to plan. J Tompson and F Daniels were each dismissed without troubling the scorers, a misfortune neither much relished. It fell to me to make the better fist of things, and I was fortunate enough to compile 26 runs, a score I am told has carried me past H Sands to the head of the club's all-time list of run-scorers, and which stands, for the present, at the top of our 1860 Friendly XI charts.
Taking the field in our turn, our men gave our visitors no easier a passage. A Startup and W Wilson were both sent back without scoring, and R Morris bowled quite splendidly, returning figures of seven wickets for none, a performance that has now carried him past my own former mark to first place among the club's wicket-takers, and which leads the season's list with nine victims. I was glad to lend a hand with three wickets myself.
With neither side able to force home an advantage, the match was drawn, honours shared โ a fair and sporting conclusion against opponents who played the game throughout in the best of spirits.
