T Jordan gave us a proper working-over, sailing past his fifty to finish on 52, with G Fuller chipping in a brisk 23 alongside him; between them they did most of the damage. Credit where it's due, though — I found some rhythm with the ball and picked up four, with E M Owens matching me wicket for wicket, and between us we sent the middle order packing. F Edmed and C Gurr at least departed without troubling the scorers, for what that's worth.
Our reply, alas, was a grim little affair. E Skinner, W Goad and X Bowles all trooped back for ducks — quite the procession — and twelve byes leaked through for good measure, which tells you all you need to know about our afternoon behind the stumps. Small mercies: X Bowles's four runs nudged him past R Warde into twelfth on the club's all-time run-scorers list, and E M Owens's four wickets lifted him past R Morris into sixth among the wicket-takers — silver linings on a thoroughly cloudy day. M A Atkins continues to lead our run charts this summer with 21, and I find myself out in front with the ball on four wickets.
We went down by an innings and 23 runs, no arguing with that scoreline. Not our finest hour — heads up, chins up, and back to the nets we go.
