We welcomed Bearsted CC to Linton Park on Saturday last, the ground looking well and the omens fair enough for a good match. Sent in first, our batting proved a fitful affair. C Tompsett gave us the innings of the day with a plucky 26, while three of our number, namely J Barber, E Cheeseman and N Tiley, were undone without troubling the scorer. It was not, I confess, our most fluent display, but the lower order rallied gamely enough to leave us with something to defend.

Bearsted's reply gave us every satisfaction. Our bowlers found their length early and never let the visitors settle, and three of their batsmen, Molyneux, Jack Tree and William J Moss among them, departed for ducks apiece at our hands. J Barber, having had a quiet time of it with the bat, made handsome amends with the ball, returning the excellent figures of 4 for 26, while C Tompsett kept up his good day's work with 3 for 15 and E Hayes chipped in with 3 for 20. Between the three of them there was precious little for Bearsted's batsmen to enjoy.

It was, all told, a fine win, and one gained very much in the best traditions of the club. C Hartridge continues to lead our run-getters this season with 55 to his name, and J Barber now heads the bowling averages with four wickets in the summer's reckoning. We repaired to the pavilion well pleased with the afternoon's work, and with our thanks to Bearsted for a keenly sporting game.
