A quiet week at the crease, if quiet is the word for an absence of the very thing this correspondent exists to record. No Ducks to Report Our sole fixture of the period passed off, remarkably, without a single member of either eleven troubling the pavilion gate before troubling the scorer. Not a cipher, not a duck's egg, not so much as a nervous single dot ball worth remarking upon — the willow, on this occasion, was wielded with a wholly uncharacteristic competence. The Duck Club's honours boards remain, for one week only, unvisited. Whether this reflects a sudden and alarming improvement in the batting generally, or merely that the bowling was not quite equal to the task, the correspondent declines to speculate. We trust it is a passing aberration, and that our eleven will return to their more familiar habits before the season is much older. Duck Hunting Season Leaderboard The season's honours board stands untroubled this week and, the records showing nothing further to hand, must rest as it was. Watchers of the ledger are invited to consult it at the next occasion of note. A gentle word to our batsmen: complacency of this sort cannot be allowed to stand. The Club looks forward, with its usual mixture of dread and delight, to the next fixture furnishing rather more material for these columns.
